March 16, 2015

While many women feel delightful about their pregnancy, their bodies may disagree. Morning sickness leaves women nauseous and queasy, taking all the joy out of what is meant to be an exciting experience. If you are suffering through your pregnancy rather than enjoying it, don’t worry, relief is out there! Just try some of these simple and all natural solutions for your morning sickness nausea.

What Causes Morning Sickness/ Nausea?

When you’re pregnant, your body starts going through a ton of physical changes. For many women, this result in nausea and vomiting during the morning, noon or night. The first step to fighting morning sickness is understanding what’s causing it. While every woman is different, some of the possible causes include:

Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG). Once pregnant, your body starts to mass-produce HCG. While it is unknown how this hormone causes nausea, it is considered the main source of morning sickness. Around 12 to 14 weeks, HCG levels drop when the placenta starts maintaining and nourishing the baby. This is generally when nausea subsides as well.

Expecting multiples. Women who are pregnant with more than one child tend to experience nausea that is much more intense and lasts much longer. This is because their bodies are producing even more hormones than women expecting only one child.

Heightened senses. When a woman is pregnant, she has a heightened sense of smell. This can cause certain aromas that were once unproblematic to suddenly trigger the gag reflex.
