Well Woman Care
As a woman, it’s important that you care for your body. That’s why it’s so important to receive your annual exam. During this annual Well Woman visit with GYN Women’s Centre of Lakewood Ranch, you will receive quality care to ensure your health! Just some of the services you will receive include:
Pelvic Exam
A pelvic exam is a normal and vital part of every woman’s health. It’s a simple exam that may only take a few minutes to perform. After a woman turns 21, a pelvic exam should be an annual event. It’s an important way for all women to look after and care for their bodies.
Pelvic exams may seem a little intimidating, especially if you’ve never had one. During the exam, your physician will examine your reproductive organs. They will check your vulva, vagina, cervix, and uterus. The procedure is often quick and painless (although you may experience some discomfort).
Gynecological health is important for all women. A pelvic exam is needed to ensure that health. The pelvic exam checks for serious conditions such as ovarian cysts, sexually transmitted infections, or certain cancers. Pap Smears
During your annual Well Woman exam, your physician may also perform a Pap smear, also known as a Pap test. This procedure is done to test for cervical cancers in women. A Pap smear consists of collecting cells from your cervix (the narrow end of your uterus), with an extended swab. Once the specimen is collected, it will be sent for pathology testing at an outside laboratory.
Please be advised that not all pelvic exams will require a pap smear collection. For most women, they will only need a Pap smear once every three to five years.
Vaccines
We offer a number of vaccines to ensure every woman’s health, including the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, GARDASIL®. During your Well Woman exam, your physician will discuss all your vaccine options to figure out which one is best for you.
Breast Exam
During each visit, your physician will also do a routine breast exam. These exams, along with mammograms, are an important chance to catch breast cancer early. You should receive a breast exam every year when you visit your physician for a pelvic exam.
